Discover new skills and gain international experience: The Silesian University of Technology (SUT) invites Bachelor’s and Master’s students from EURECA-PRO partner universities to take part in a series of English-language elective courses offered during the Winter Semester 2026/2027. Running from 12 October 2026 to 31 January 2027, the courses provide an excellent opportunity to expand your knowledge, develop valuable competencies, and earn 2 ECTS credits in an international learning environment.
The programme includes topics focusing on transversal skills that are highly valued in academia and the labour market, such as problem solving, presentation skills, communication, critical thinking, active listening, scientific literacy, and collaboration in international teams. Students interested in sustainability and responsible development can also choose courses, which feature a strong Responsible Consumption and Production (RCP) component.
Courses are delivered in a flexible format, allowing participation either online or in person, with classes taking place every Wednesday. Thanks to the diversity of the offer, students can choose subjects that best match their academic interests and career aspirations.

As the courses cover a wide range of disciplines, each has its own dedicated description and syllabus.

Key details
The Silesian University of Technology (Poland) invites students from EURECA-PRO partner universities to participate in online English-language elective courses.
Schedule: Every Wednesday, 2:00–4:00 PM or 4:00–6:00 PM, depending on the course, with simultaneous in-person and online participation. Please check the individual course descriptions for the exact times.
Duration: 30 h
Targeted audience: the course is open to Bachelor’s and Master’s students from all partner universities.

Application of CFD methods in engineering practice
The course begins with a brief theoretical introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics. The main content consists of practical examples of applications of CFD methods in the broader engineering practice. The examples cover the entire process of carrying out simulations: building the model, preparing the numerical mesh, running the calculations, and analyzing, processing and presenting the results. Well recognized ANSYS Fluent and Pyrosim/FDS software packages are used.

Basics of cognitive analytics
The program content is related to the main concepts connected to the evolution of main stages of business analytics and especially the most developed stage of it – the cognitive analytics.

Combustion
The aim of the course is to familiarize Students with the main way of energy conversion, which is the combustion of fuels. The lecture will include an introduction to the methods of describing the phenomena and processes occurring during the combustion of gaseous, liquid and solid fuels and an overview of the latest trends in combustion technology. In addition, ways to use conventional and alternative fuels such as hydrogen, ammonia and solid metallic fuels will be discussed. The basic constructions of burners and combustion chambers used in energy production systems and transport will also be presented.

Future separation technologies – from clean water to space technologies
The course presents modern separation techniques used in the food industry, environmental protection, hydrogen and energy technologies, recycling, and advanced systems including space applications. Students explore practical applications of extraction, chromatography, electromigration, and membrane processes at laboratory and industrial scale, with emphasis on efficiency, selectivity, and sustainability.

Metallurgy of welding
The most important welding processes, the role of heat treatment in welding, phase transformations under welding conditions, metallographic structure of the welded joint, the role of nitrogen oxygen in the weld metal, non-metallic inclusions and intermetallic inclusions, welding metallurgy of various steel grades, aluminum alloys, metallurgical phenomena during soldering, metallurgical phenomena during weld brazing.

Practical applications of electronics in everyday life
The course aims to familiarise students with the practical applications of electronic circuits and devices that are useful in everyday life. Topics are covered in a clear and transparent manner, with the necessary basics explained to help students understand the examples presented in class. Students will learn about the applications of simple, commercially available electronic modules and become familiar with the fundamentals of designing and constructing uncomplicated electronic devices that can be useful in everyday life. Classes will also demonstrate free software that facilitates practical electronics experiments.

Strength analysis of implants and tissues with finite element method (FEM)
Improving skills in the CAD design skills and assess the strength of implant and tissue materials using finite element simulation (FEM). Practical application of knowledge in the field of strength of materials to simulation testing of multi-material complex structures.

Theory of Chess
The course introduces students to the basic rules of chess, chess notation, and fundamental concepts of strategy and tactics. The classes cover the basics of opening theory, position analysis, and move planning. The course develops logical and strategic thinking, decision-making skills, and problem-solving abilities.
