EURECA-PRO Reinforces Commitment to a Connected and Student-Centred European University

The EURECA-PRO Alliance gathered at the Universidad de León from 18–22 May 2026 for its annual Review Week, achieving significant progress in strengthening the future of European higher education through enhanced student mobility, educational cooperation, and institutional sustainability.

The meeting brought together all nine partner universities from across Europe to accelerate key initiatives supporting EURECA-PRO’s vision as the European University for Responsible Consumption and Production. Discussions and working sessions focused on improving international learning opportunities, advancing collaborative research, and creating more connected and student-centred educational pathways across the alliance. Hosted by Universidad de León, the event provided an important platform for strategic dialogue, knowledge exchange, and the continued development of a more integrated European academic community.

Key Outcomes of the Week

  • Signing of the Automatic Module Recognition Framework
  • Commitment to significantly increase mobility until the end of 2026
  • Stronger integration of flagship research missions into educational activities
  • Advancement of the external stakeholder and partner network
  • Reinforcing student council participation in governance and decision-making

The Review Week programme also addressed the long-term development and resilience of European university alliances. Through expert-led discussions on virtual exchange, blended mobility, and financial sustainability, participants explored strategies to strengthen international cooperation and ensure sustainable institutional growth. 

Robert O’Dowd, Professor of English Studies and Applied Linguistics at Universidad de León, highlighted the role of digital collaborative learning in expanding internationalisation and fostering global citizenship, while Gregory Möller, Professor of Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology at University of Idaho, and Enora Bennetot Pruvot, Deputy Director for Governance, Funding and Public Policy Development at the European University Association, contributed perspectives on sustainable funding models and the future of European university cooperation.

The week further strengthened collaboration between partner institutions and reinforced EURECA-PRO’s shared commitment to innovation, academic excellence, and long-term societal impact aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production
