Final phase of STEM Innovation Contest 2023

4th to 8th July 2023 @ Universidad de León

The final phase of STEM Innovation Contest will be celebrated in Universidad de León on 4th to 8th July, 2023. There will be teams from SUT, ULE, HSMW, TU BAF, and UP: Applefreak (ULE – TU BAF), AppPopuli++ (ULE – SUT), AvGeeks (SUT), Environment Research Engineering (UP), MWC22 (HSMW), Safe Wheels (SUT – Université de Toulouse – Politecnico di Milano), Sampling (ULE) and 3D Printing with Ceramics (SUT – MUL).

OBJECTIVES:

  • To engage undergraduate and Master students, especially women, into the design of creative STEM (‘Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics’) projects.
  • To promote invention and problem-solving abilities through collaborative work with the support of multidisciplinary STEM researchers acting as mentors.
  • To address real-world innovative challenges provided by STEM-related companies from EURECA-PRO countries (Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Poland, Romania and Spain) seeking for the best solution to an everyday life problem or a relevant current social need through PBL (‘Project Based Learning’) approaches.

TARGET GROUP:

For bachelor students in the last or second-to-last (fourth semester or henceforth) BSc courses or in Master studies making up teams of maximum 4 students. Researchers can participate as mentors and PhD students as co-mentors.

HOW TO DELIVER EFFECTIVE ORAL PRESENTATIONS

Duration: 6 hours
Objectives: learn to prepare effective oral presentations based on the intended objectives and target audience.

The course will take place on July, the 4th and 5th, following the schedule below:

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Understand how to prepare the structure and development of the different parts of a presentation.
  • Learn how to use voice (intonation, volume, etc.) and non-verbal communication (proxemics, kinesics, etc.), as well as other paralinguistic elements that enhance the effectiveness of the presentation.
  • Know how to capture and maintain the audience’s attention, generating credibility.
  • Utilize gestures and emotions to enhance the communication process.
  • Prepare different visual elements and use them effectively according to their needs.
  • Present a polished and professional image.
  • Learn to manage stage fright.
