Summary

The need to develop and strengthen interdisciplinary research collaboration in the field of Responsible Consumption and Production (RCP) is undisputed given the complex societal, economic, technological and ecological challenges facing our present and future generations. EURECA-PRO aims to become an inter- and transdisciplinary research and innovation leader in qualitative environmental and social framework development and is committed to developing actions and strategies which build a strong and cohesive European Research Area.

Cognitive frameworks and practical modes of interdisciplinarity play a central role in this endeavour.

This report (Deliverable 3.1) includes definitions of terms (inter-, multi- and transdisciplinarity) and presents general conditions, frameworks and models of interdisciplinary collaboration. The report also discusses relevant interdisciplinary competencies and emphasises the need to facilitate communication across disciplinary boundaries.
