The European University Alliance EURECA-PRO has taken a significant step toward making international learning more accessible by introducing a strengthened framework for automatic module recognition across its nine partner universities.
The initiative supports EURECA-PRO’s ambitious goal of achieving 50% student mobility during the current project phase — representing around 60,000 students. The new framework will ensure that credits earned at partner institutions are automatically recognised and counted toward students’ home degree programmes, reducing administrative barriers and creating a smoother academic experience across Europe.
Building on initiatives established during the first phase of the project — including a shared grade conversion framework, standardised module description templates, and digitally validated certificates featuring QR codes for secure verification — the new framework introduces shared governance mechanisms for recognition decisions and promotes the mutual recognition of equivalent modules through flagship academic collaborations. These measures are expected to strengthen academic cooperation while increasing student participation in international educational opportunities.
The new alliance-wide agreement, signed on 19 May 2026 during Review Week at Universidad de León by the rectors of all nine EURECA-PRO partner universities, commits institutions to recognising EURECA-PRO educational modules at least as free electives, while integrating core components such as the Introductory Lecture and the EURECA-PRO Passport into degree programmes wherever possible.
The agreement marks a major milestone in the development of EURECA-PRO as the European University for Responsible Consumption and Production, strengthening its commitment to a more connected, student-centred, and internationally integrated higher education experience.
Jutta Emes
- As universities, we have the privilege of working together with young people, who are the leaders of tomorrow and the future experts on SDG 12. It is therefore essential that the students working on this highly important topic are supported with a much more seamless study experience.

Benefits for students
For students, the new framework will provide clearer pathways for international study, greater flexibility in shaping their academic journeys, and stronger recognition of learning completed abroad or online.
Courses completed within EURECA-PRO will increasingly count as mandatory, elective, or free elective modules within degree structures, ensuring that mobility becomes an academic advantage rather than an administrative challenge.
Anna Chrobok
- The signing of the automated module recognition agreement represents a significant milestone for our alliance and for the European Higher Education landscape. This new regulation ensures that student achievements are recognised across all partner universities and at their home institutions, enabling smoother mobility and stronger academic progression for students.
