About the film
We warmly invite all students and staff of the Technical University of Leoben to take part.
‘The Memory of Darkness, Light, and Ice’ is an award-winning documentary released in 2025 about the effects of sea level rise and our geopolitical and socio-economic future. A film by Metamorph Films, directed by Kathy Kasic.
If the Greenland ice sheet – one of the global tipping points – was to melt completely, global sea levels would rise by seven metres, which would have a dramatic impact on coastal areas and societies worldwide. A long-lost sediment core recovered from a secret Cold War-era US military base in Greenland provided compelling evidence that Greenland was once ice-free.
By exploring the past, scientists are discovering important clues about our future. The realisation that the ice sheet has melted in the past fundamentally changes our understanding of the stability of the Greenland ice sheet.
