A Second-Hand Market in León to Boost Responsible Consumption

The activity organised by the EURECA-PRO team at the Universidad de León, in collaboration with the social enterprise Moda-Re and the Junta de Estudiantes, was a resounding success.

As part of the UUniversidad de León’s Student Days, held during the week of 22 until 26 September 2025, many were surprised when they walked across the Vegazana Campus and discovered a colourful stall packed with clothes, posters on responsible consumption, and rewards for those who picked up garments.

The EURECA-PRO communications team in León had proposed a clothing collection and swap event to raise awareness of the circular economy and promote responsible production and consumption. The idea was simple: a market where you could donate clothes and exchange them for other items, or receive your favourite piece by following EURECA-PRO on social media, answering questions about the circular economy, or bringing a friend along.

Sustainable future

The initiative was organised in partnership with Moda-Re, a social enterprise of Cáritas Diocesana León. Moda-Re runs two shops in León where it promotes circular fashion, strengthens the solidarity economy, and provides employment opportunities for people facing social exclusion.

Clothing was collected over the course of a week, inviting both students and staff at the Universidad de León to donate. The swap market itself ran for four days, during which more than 200 people took part, exchanging around 1,000 items of clothing—clear evidence of the university community’s strong interest in social and sustainable initiatives.

The success of the market lies not only in these numbers but also in EURECA-PRO’s ongoing commitment to promoting the values of circularity, sustainability, and support for initiatives that unite students, staff, and the wider community—bringing us one step closer to a more sustainable future.
