Strong Representation in Key Discussions
Montanuniversität Leoben Rector Peter Moser delivered a talk on “Success Factors in Collaboration between Universities and Industry”. His presentation emphasised the vital role of strategic partnerships in addressing Europe’s raw materials challenges. The European University Alliance EURECA-PRO was repeatedly highlighted as a pioneering example of effective cooperation. Representatives from EURECA-PRO partner institutions, including the Silesian University of Technology and the University of Petrosani, were also present, underscoring the alliance’s collaborative strength.
At the same time, Prof. Michael Tost (MUL) chaired an expert panel featuring industry representatives and NGOs on the topic “Sustainable Mining: Bridging Ambition and Action”. The discussion was framed around the Sustainability Framework developed within the EU project SUMEX, coordinated by Montanuniversität Leoben. The panel examined practical examples of successful implementation as well as existing barriers and areas requiring further action to advance truly sustainable mining practices.
Immersive experiences
Innovation in Raw Materials Education
Throughout the entire week, the Montanuniversität Leoben Resources Innovation Centre (RIC) team actively promoted cutting-edge developments in raw materials education through the MiReBooks mixed-reality technology. Visitors had the chance to embark on a virtual underground mine tour using VR headsets, exploring salt mines in Poland and Germany.
These immersive experiences offered attendees an engaging look into modern engineering education and demonstrated how new technologies can transform the learning environment.
