The University of Lorraine joins the European scientific consortium EURECA-PRO, for responsible consumption and production

On September 27, the University of Lorraine joined the European alliance EURECA-PRO, which now includes nine universities. In order to maintain its rank as a European university, this European scientific network is pursuing its strategy focused on the major challenge of ecological transition. This strategy responds to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 12 - "Sustainable consumption and production".
Already a winner of the “European University” call for projects, EURECA-PRO now brings together 9 universities in 8 European countries and intends to carry out its strategic actions in training, research and innovation around responsible consumption and production, with the ambition of positioning itself in a strong and visible way on the theme of the circular economy and the environmental transition. With more than 62,000 students, the University of Lorraine has doubled the number of students in the consortium.
The integration of the University of Lorraine into this alliance is part of the response being prepared for the new call for proposals under Erasmus+ launched by the European Commission on November 30, to support the continued deployment of the European Universities Initiative, in particular by inviting existing alliances to propose an extension of their dynamics, which could include the integration of new members.
Multidisciplinarity and systems engineering for a European university
The University of Lorraine’s membership of EURECA-PRO corresponds perfectly to the institution’s strategic positioning on an interdisciplinary approach to the major transitions of the 21st century. Multidisciplinarity and systems engineering have been strongly embedded in the university’s DNA since its creation.
The strategic issues surrounding the objectives of sustainable development are becoming increasingly important for the University of Lorraine, and this membership is a contribution to the building. “Our disciplines and our multidisciplinary vocation are focused on the major challenges of sustainable development, so we are perfectly in tune with the European consortium. The EURECA-PRO alliance is composed of Montanuniversität Leoben (Austria), Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg (Germany), Technical University of Crete (Greece), Universidad de León (Spain), Silesian University of Technology (Poland), University of Petrosani (Romania), University of Applied Sciences Mittweida (Germany), and University of Hasselt (Belgium).
