Targeted audience:  academic staff, students, administrative staff, general public, no previous knowledge required, requirement: interest in learning and/or improvement of language skills!

Place of delivery: on location in Mittweida / *online: upon request only

Objectives:      

  • To promote intercultural exchange and mutual language learning among students and staff.
  • To support language acquisition through authentic, informal communication with native speakers.
  • To create a more inclusive and connected campus by fostering personal interaction across cultural and linguistic boundaries.

Competencies:
Participants will develop the following competencies:

  • Intercultural Competence: Ability to engage respectfully and effectively with individuals from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Language Proficiency: Improved listening, speaking, and conversational skills in the target language.
  • Communication Skills: Greater fluency, spontaneity, and adaptability in real-life communication situations.
  • Self-directed Learning: Experience in setting personal learning goals and reflecting on progress through informal peer exchange.
  • Empathy and Perspective-Taking: Enhanced understanding of others’ viewpoints, language habits, and communication styles.

Learning Outcomes:
Participants will be able to:

  • Communicate more confidently and naturally in their target language during everyday and semi-formal interactions.
  • Describe cultural norms, values, or communication practices of their partner’s background, showing awareness of intercultural differences.
  • Reflect on their own language learning journey and identify personal strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Establish and maintain a productive language partnership, using provided materials and strategies.
  • Participate in intercultural events (e.g. Language Café) and apply their language skills in social contexts.

Participants develop the programme themselves according to their language level and interests. They are supported by an experienced team of language teachers.

Individual schedule, monthly Language Cafés (always Tuesdays) between 6-8pm in Mittweida!
